Mogadishu Mayor: Football competitions carry messages of peace

Thabet Abdi Mohamed, the Mayor of Somalia's Capital Mogadishu, said that football competitions in Somalia are carrying messages of peace and goodwill throughout the country.


Talking to the media at the end of the second edition of Somali Inter-State football tournament on Friday, the Mayor said that the continuation of football activities in Somalia shows that the country is going towards the right direction.


"I would like to tell all Somali people around the world that the country is going ahead. The tournament has concluded in a very successful way. I congratulate Jubbaland for winning the tournament and Puntland for reaching the final stage” the Mayor of the capital, Thabet Abdi Mohamed, said.



"I can say that the football event was a big sign of peace, integration and unity for Somalia and in particularly for the young people who have enjoyed a beautiful tournament” the Mayor noted.


"I call on the Somali people to work together to be able to keep a firm hold on the peace and stability which allowed us to have such beautiful competitions” Mogadishu Mayor, Thabet Abdi Mohamed noted.


"I am very jubilant that the Inter-State football competition has been held in Mogadishu for the second year running. As a Mayor, I declare that my administration and the people of Mogadishu are always ready to welcome our Somali brothers and sisters to their city” the Mayor said.


In history, Mr. Thabet is the youngest ever Mayor for Somalia’s Capital and he became the most football-loving man to lead the city.
