CAF president mourns Somalia over the loss of football legend Abdi Ali Sheik

The president of African Football's governing body [CAF], Issa Hayatou, has written to Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab, to express his sadness at the recent passing of Somali Football legend, Abdi Ali Sheik.

The letter of condolence which dated on 21st of March read "On behalf of CAF CAF Executive Committee, the entire African football family and in my personal name, we would like to convey to the Somalia Football family our deepest condolences and sympathy following the death of the football legend Abdi Ali Sheik”.

 

President Hayatou said in his condolence letter "The latter has been dedicated for the cause and development of Somali football, while he also served as the deputy chairman of the Somalia police-owned club Heegan. We send our prayers and thoughts to the family of Mr. Abdi Ali Sheik and may God bless his Soul. Please accept, dear President, my most sincere regards”.

 

The late Abdi Ali Sheik had contributed to the development of Somali football for more than 50 years. He was a key figure in the Ocean stars in 1960s and 1970s.

 

He died on Friday morning and left behind much respect within the people of Somalia.
