"It is with a great sadness and shock to learn the death
of Charles Kumi Gyamfi, a man who fought hard to deliver his football knowledge
to Somalia and gained much respect and appreciation amongst the people of
Somalia” Somali FA President, Abdiqani Said Arab, said in a statement through
his Media and communications manager, Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar.
"On behalf of m country and people, I am sending this
condolence message to you with profound feeling of sadness over the death of
your legendary coach and footballer, Charles Kumi Gyamfi. Somalia is mourning
with Ghana FA and the entire people of Ghana” Somali FA President Abdiqani Said
Arab, said in his condolence letter to his Ghanaian counterpart, Mr. Nyantakyi
Kwesi.
"Please convey my sympathy to the family and Charles Kumi Gyamfi friends and the entire people of Ghana” the condolence message read.
The president said that the death of Charles Kumi Gyamfi
is a loss for the entire Africa, as the iconic legend was the first African player
to exhibit in Germany after he joined Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1960.
The Ghanaian legend served in Somalia where he led Municipal
FC in 1983-1984 before he took over Somalia’s U 21 squad to Africa U 21
competition in 1984. The Ocean stars youngsters lost to Nigeria 1-0 in Lagos,
after kicking Kenya out of the competition. Charles Kumi Gyamfi, was then praised by Somali FA for
developing the team.
