Victorious Djiboutian girls receive bonus after beating Qatar at home

The President of Djibouti Football Federation, Mr Souleiman Hassan Waberi has on Monday awarded his female youngsters with cash for their professional performance at the ongoing Pan Arab women's U 17 tournament in Doha.


The cheering president who arrived in Doha earlier on Monday morning, met with the girls within minutes after his arrival and handed them with cash to encourage them redouble their efforts in the coming matches.


"You have done well and I am really very proud of you” the president told the young girls promising them he will do his utmost to help women’s football in Djibouti climb on top.



"This is the starter bonus for you, the federation is planning an extra bonus and the president of the nation will award you after you are back home, the president told the young girls adding he was expecting from them to win the trophy. Djibouti is now preparing for the qualifiers of FIFA and CAN women’s Under 17 tournaments, as the country’s women’s football is fully revived.


The revival of women’s football in Djibouti was several development programs pledged by the young age president Souleiman Hassan Waberi during his post election address on 10th of November 2012.


Djibouti has now a ten-team women’s football league which has been played since 2013. Also school girls between 14-16 years of age have their own school tournaments.


The young shoulders now representing Djibouti at the ongoing Pan Arab women’s youth tourney were shortlisted from 2014 school girls’ football competition in the country.

Mazer Fouad Abdallah has been recognized Djibouti’s history writer as she became the first Djiboutian player to score a hat-trick for her country in its football history. Even Djiboutian men’s team have never done this.


The girls’ top performance have dominated newspapers in the Gulf State on Monday, as one of the world’s richest countries suffered a big humiliation from a small horn of African nation.
