Every year, the clubs receive such donation from the SFF,
at the beginning of football year to help them promote football since Somalia
has no sponsors.
The distribution ceremony of the equipment and the cash donation
was held at the Somali Football Federation headquarters on Tuesday, November 4.
The move was part of the SFF’s programme to develop clubs
both technically and financially, according to Deputy Secretary General, Hassan
Mohamed Mahmoud.
SFF Senior vice president, Ali Abdi Mohamed, added that his Federation has in the past been giving such assistance to it clubs since they don’t have sponsorships. He said the Division A clubs will benefit from such donation prior to the start of the Nation Link Telecom championship by mid next month.
Somali Football Federation President, Abdiqani Said Arab,
who finally addressed at the gathering, said that in accordance with the rest
of FIFA-member nations, Somalia was exceptional and the SFF was obliged to
financially assist the clubs.
"Both the SFF and the clubs have no sponsors and our
football depends of the assistance from FIFA, so we came to decision to assist
our clubs who have been playing a big role in the promotion of football in the
country” president Abdiqani Said Arab noted.
"For the past two
decades the SFF, was helping its clubs, but this time the assistance was bigger
than the clubs received from the SFF in the past” the president said adding that
the federation was always committed to helping its clubs as much as it could.
Somali FA has been active in chaotic country, where the SFF
and its clubs were dependent on FIFA support, as international football
sponsoring companies were unable to come.
But now that Somalia is emerging from years of conflicts and
the country was able to host FIFA level courses for the second year running,
president Abdiqani Said Arab called on international football interested
companies to come and get involved in Somali Football.
