Experts from CAF refereeing and coaching departments
addressed at the workshop which was held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
The workshop focused on the development of football in
Africa and in particularly the sectors of refereeing and coaching, according to
Somali Football Federation education officer and referee coordinator Ali
Mohamed Ahmed who talked to the CECAFA Media department at the end of the
workshop on Saturday.
Presentations delivered during the workshop explained the
policy of CAF relating to the refereeing sector development as the continental
football governing body prioritises the creation of young and educated referees
in particularly gathered from schools and universities.
"CAF is committed
to increasing the quality and quantity of referees in the continent and we want
that each country to train more talented and educated young people and that
will help them to have a large number of high quality referees in the future” Athanse
Kaputo (Rwanda) from CAF refereeing department told the the workshop.
Kaputo praised Somalia for coming up with young and
talented referees and urged other countries to follow the same way. Since 2011 Somali Football Federation was weighting on the
development of its referees as scores of young people selected from
universities and high schools are trained every year since then.
CAF was happy that 6 out of the 9 Somali international
referees were under 30 years of age, as the country intends to increase the
quality and quantity of its referees both locally and internationally.
According to its strategic plans, Somali Football Federation
intends to have the number of its elite referees increased by 25 percent for
the next three years.
