Somalia acclaims former Ocean stars playmaker

The Somali Football Federation has organized a national welcome for its former National team member Ahmed Abas Busuri who recently returned home from the United States where he had lived for more than two decades.


Somali Football Federation president Ali Said Guled Roble has presented awarded the National team jersey and the country’s flag to the former footballer during a congregation at Stadium Banadir on Friday in the presence of the newly appointed minister of sport Khalid Omar Ali, former international football referee and national intelligence chief general Bashir Mohamed Jama, members of Somali FA executive committee and club authorities.

Tens of thousands of spectators at the Stadium stood and applauded for the legend as he entered stadium Banadir where the national welcome ceremony took place on Friday as the national anthem was also rang.



"I am very happy to be here today and receive the National team jersey as an award from Somali Football federation president” the former player said as he was surrounded by some of former Ocean starts members including: Mohamed Ahmed Olow, Ajeelow, Mohamed Abdulle Farayare, Hassan Sheik Aweys, Abdi Farah Gela, Yahye Mohamed Abukar, Awil Ismail Mohamed and Abukar Islow Hassan.

Somali Football Federation President Ali Said Guled Roble said that it was very cheerful experience for his federation and the entire Somali football family members to welcome a person of such high level football individuality.

"We still remember the great job you did for your country in your era as a national team member, Somalia will always be very proud of you” President Ali Said Guled Roble told the former National team player who recently returned home after nearly 25 years in exile.

In 1986 Ahmed Abas Busuri was awarded as Somalia’s best player of the year, but unfortunately in 1988 he retired as he was still young but because of a serious knee injury that lead him to retire.

Ahmed has been living in the United States for the past two decades where an accident left him paralyzed and he is now on a wheelchair. "However Ahmed is on a wheelchair, his experience was still very helpful for us” Somali Football Federation President said Friday.
