On Tuesday, the Somali Football Federation (SFF) has called nearly 90
young age players who were shortlisted from the recent Division B and Division
C championships, as part of SFF’s early preparations for the near future
international football competitions.
"The SFF has informed the players through their respected clubs to attend
the training sessions which will start in Banadir Stadium on the 1stof February 2014” Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said
Arab said in a press statement on Tuesday adding that the 84 players were
shortlisted by the SFF technical department.
He said that during the training, the invited players will be divided
into four teams. He added that the SFF intends to organize a week-long
competition for the teams as during the competition the SFF technical director
Awil Ismail Mohamed and his team will make the final short list of two national
U-20 and U- 23 teams.
"The U-20 squad will be preparing for the 2015 African youth championship
while the U 23 team will prepare for the Rio 2016 qualifications” Somali
Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab noted.
The secretary general thanked SFF technical director Awil Ismail Mohamed
and his team of experienced coaches for the hard work they are doing in a bid
to prepare qualified national players for the upcoming international football
competitions.
Meanwhile, SFF technical director Awil Ismail Mohamed said that his
department has drawn special training programs for the national teams adding he
was very hopeful that Somalia will make changes in terms of its performance in
the near future international competitions.
"We have now more chances than ever before and that will help get
talented players” SFF technical director Awil Ismail Mohamed noted.
