AS port who represented Djibouti in the 2013 CECAFA club cup in Sudan, have now celebrated their victory for winning the country's supper cup, after thrashing their Djibouti Telecom opponents in a hotly-contested match that attracted tens of thousands of spectators including top government officials, club chairmen and representatives from sponsoring companies in the country.

Djibouti National anthem was rung as FA president Mr. Souleiman Hassan Waberi, minister of sport Mr. Badoul Hassan Badoul, lawmakers and other officials entered the stadium before the match kick off here at the El Haji Gouled National stadium over the weekend.

Each club was committed to winning the supper cup and both sides were taking successive attacks on each other’s goals, but as the match was very competitive none of the clubs happened to win during the 90-minute period that it takes to play a football match.

At the end of the match a very colourful ceremony which intended to mark on the occasion was held at the El Haji Gouled National stadium where the minister for youth and sport and the country’s football Federation president and representatives from sponsoring companies addressed.

Djibouti FA president Mr Souleiman Hassan Waberi praised both clubs for being the country’s 2013 supper cup competitors. "I praise the players of both clubs for making a very professional exhibition, they really presented a skilful game during which they acted on the fair play principles---that was what the beautiful game is all about” President Souleiman Hassan Waberi noted during his address.

"For your excellence Mr. Minister of youth and sport in Djibouti, here in front of you I would like to deliver my thanks to the sponsoring companies in the country who are playing a key role in the promotion of football in Djibouti” the president noted before handing over the microphone to the minister for youth and sport Mr Badoul Hassan Badoul.

For his part the minister indicated that on behalf of the government of the republic of Djibouti he was fully jubilant at the successive football activities across the country praising the Djibouti FA for the great job.

"Football is the people’s game and as a government we know that rather than developing football in Djibouti our football federation is doing other important services for the country including fight against drug abuse and building a bright future for young people in Djibouti” the minister told the media as he presented the trophy to the captain of AS ports here at the El Haji Gouled National stadium over the weekend.
